Let Us Pray Part 3 (The Rules Of Engagement) by Apostle Selman

Let Us Pray – Part One (Gaining Mastery In Prayer) by Apostle Selman
Let Us Pray Part Two (Gaining Mastery In Prayer) by Apostle Selman
Lift your hands and give God praise. Give Him all the honour that He alone deserves. One generation to another will glorify His name. Give Him praise and honour.
Pray: Father, give me the capacity to receive from You today, in the name of Jesus Christ!
The goal of the teaching ministry in Koinonia is to produce a people who are Spiritually enlightened, people who are victorious, and people who walk in dominion.
“But we will give ourselves continually to prayer and to the ministry of the word.” — Acts 6:4 (NKJV)
The goal of the teaching ministry is to raise spiritually enlightened Believers; men and women who walk experientially in victory and dominion through The Word.
“Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.”
James 4:3 (KJV)
“Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.”
James 5:16 (KJV)
“Therefore, confess your sins to one another [your false steps, your offenses], and pray for one another, that you may be healed and restored. The heartfelt and persistent prayer of a righteous man (believer) is able to accomplish much [when put into action and made effective by God—it is dynamic and can have tremendous power].”
James 5:16 (AMP)
Prayer was a consistent practice in the life of Jesus Christ, even though He was the Son of God.
The goal of the “Let Us Pray” series is to help Believers gain mastery in prayer by understanding its dynamics and learning how to engage it for a profitable prayer life. (James 4:3, 5:16, 2 Timothy 2:5)
I pray for you, that as you listen to The Word, your prayer altar will be rekindled and set on fire again, in the name of Jesus Christ!
There is no matter in life that prayers cannot do something about. (Philippians 4:6)
The idea of prayer is that it is at the fabric of everything spirituality.
What is Prayer?
• Prayer is communication with God.
• Prayer is our way of communicating our thoughts, needs, and desires to God
• Prayer is the principal channel of communion and fellowship with God. (2 Corinthians 13:14)
• The value and the benefit of prayer go beyond an individual. It can affect a family, a community, and a nation. There is no matter in life that prayer cannot attend to.
When the Bible talks about faith, there are five (5) levels of faith that can make the Believer live a victorious life:
1. No faith or Zero faith
2. Little faith
3. Much faith
4. Great faith
5. Exceeding faith
The reason why the Believer most times does not get any result in prayer is that oftentimes we lament, and lamentation is not a form of prayer.
God is touched by the feelings of our infirmity, but He only responds to His Word.
When you desire to call upon the name of The Lord, the platform will always be prayer.
While it is not wrong to lament before God, do not stop there; move from lamentation into prayer. God is touched by the feelings of our infirmities, but He responds to His Word.
When we talk about the voice of God, it doesn’t necessarily mean the sound of God; it means all the scriptural channels by which God transfers His thoughts, His will, and His intent to the knowledge of the Believer.
Channels To Hear The Voice of God:
1. Scriptures
2. Dreams and prophetic encounters
3. The co-existence of peace and joy
4. The leverage of the prophetic
5. The witness of the Holy Spirit
The necessity of prayer is predicated on the authority of will that God entrusted to man. It became scripturally wrong for God to intervene without man willfully and verbally expressing his desire for divine help and assistance.
This reveals that prayerlessness is the highest form of pride. Prayerlessness symbolizes an outright declaration of independence from God’s assistance.
What Determines How God Speaks To You:
1. Your level of spiritual growth
2. The nature of the assignment
3. Your level of spiritual development
Every mandate comes with a divine strategy for its successful execution.
Never leave God’s presence until you receive both the mandate and the strategy.
I pray for you: As you engage the ministry of prayer, alongside the Word you are receiving, I decree that divine strategies for execution will be released to you, in the name of Jesus Christ.
1. I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;
2. For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.
3. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;
4. Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.
1 Timothy 2:1-4
In this season, and across all territories, God is raising real intercessors, in the name of Jesus Christ!
I perceive that men and women are rising, people who will rise with grace for prayer, individuals who will change the order of things, enforce the will of God, and establish His counsel in their families and across their territories, in the name of Jesus Christ!
The program of God is at risk in any territory where trained and properly mentored intercessors are absent.
It is not enough to dissipate energy in the place of prayer; one must learn how to pray fervently and effectively to birth the will of God across territories.
You would never know how important it is to enforce the will of God over your life and your territory, and to walk in victory and dominion, until you understand the mystery of prayer.
The Role of Intercessors and Watchmen:
Intercessors are trained Believers who understand the spiritual principles of prayer. They discern spiritual seasons, detect shifts, and respond by establishing altars of prayer to align situations with God’s will.
Not every loud prayer is an effective prayer. Volume, emotion, or intensity alone does not guarantee spiritual impact. Effective intercession requires:
1. Understanding spiritual laws
2. Praying according to God’s will
3. Engaging Scripture as the foundation
4. Discernment and discipline
We need trained and mentored intercessors, not just people with zeal, but people with knowledge and spiritual understanding. True intercessors learn the rules of engagement in prayer.
The Power of Scriptural Intercession:
The Word of God gives Believers leverage in the spirit. When prayer is rooted in Scripture, situations can change, outcomes can shift, and circumstances can align with God’s will.
Anything that does not reflect the nature, character, and will of Christ can be transformed through effectual, faith-filled prayer.
Prayer and the Ministry of Angels: A Strategy for Enforcing Victory
As part of God’s strategy for enforcing victory in the life of a Believer and across territories, prayer activates the ministry of angels. This is a vital truth every Believer must understand and write down: prayer is one of the primary spiritual channels through which angelic assistance is released.
The ministry of angels plays a significant role in God’s overall system for establishing His will. From the Book of Genesis to the Book of Revelation, Scripture reveals angels working in partnership with the Word of God and with the Holy Spirit to accomplish divine purposes.
The Assignment of Angels:
The Bible shows us different dimensions of angelic operation:
1. Harvest dimension: Angels are described as reapers and laborers sent to carry out divine assignments.
2. Protection ministry: Angels guard and preserve God’s people.
3. Strengthening ministry: Angels bring encouragement and supernatural strength in times of weakness or intense spiritual engagement.
After Christ Jesus completed a season of fasting and prayer, angels came and ministered to Him. This demonstrates that even in the earthly ministry of Christ, angelic assistance was part of God’s system of support.
Ministering Spirits Sent to Believers:
Scripture calls angels ministering spirits in Hebrews 1:14:
“Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?”
This means angels are commissioned to serve in God’s program on behalf of Believers. They are not worshiped, but they are divinely assigned helpers carrying out God’s instructions.
Angelic Protection:
The psalmist also declared in the Book of Psalms 91:11 (KJV)
“For He shall give His angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.”
This reveals that divine protection is not merely symbolic; it is an active spiritual administration involving angelic beings executing God’s commands.
Angels function in cooperation with God’s Word, His Spirit, and His people. Through prayer, Believers align with heaven’s system and activate divine assistance for victory, protection, strengthening, and fulfillment of God’s purposes.
Believers must understand that we do not command Angels to act on our behalf; rather, we activate their ministry by engaging The Word of God.
I pray for you: May you encounter the ministry of Angels, in the name of Jesus Christ.
Angels provide guidance, deliver divine messages, and carry out assignments relating to warfare, protection, and divine enforcement. Scripture even speaks of spiritual warfare in heaven, where Michael led the battle. This shows that Angels are not just symbolic figures; they are active participants in God’s divine administration.
There are different classes of Angelic beings mentioned in Scripture and theological study, including:
1. Cherubim
2. Seraphim
3 Archangels
4 Messenger angels
5 Warrior angels
There is a broad and rich theological discussion concerning angelology, but every Believer should at least understand this foundational truth: angels exist, and they are part of God’s system.
Even if one does not yet understand their classifications, spiritual growth includes becoming aware of their presence and ministry.
When Angels Are Deployed:
• When an individual accepts the Lordship of Jesus Christ, Angels are assigned to minister to them, aiding their growth and alignment in the faith.
• When a believer responds to the call of God upon their life, there is a designation of the Angelic ministry that is connected to that call that helps bring efficiency to their call.
• Angels are also dispatched when a prophetic season is upon a Believer or a territory, to facilitate the purposes of God.
There is no clear biblical record where Believers are instructed to directly command angels. While some may speak in such terms, Scripture reveals the true principle: Angels only respond to God’s Word.
When a Believer declares God’s Word in faith, angels act in obedience to that Word, not because of the Believer’s authority, but because they are responding to the authority and power contained in God’s Word.
Scripture affirms that angels are mighty and excel in strength, carrying out God’s commands. Their assignment is to enforce and establish what God has spoken.
Wherever The Word of God is sent, the power of God follows.
The ministry of Angels functions in alignment with that principle. When the Word of God is spoken in faith, heaven backs it. Angels move in response to divine instruction released through Scripture.
So it is not a matter of ordering angels around. Rather, it is a matter of:
• Declaring God’s Word
• Aligning with His will
• Walking in obedience
• Exercising faith
When these are present, the Angelic ministry is activated because heaven responds to God’s Word.
I pray for you: where the ministry of angels has been dormant in your life due to neglect of the Word and the angelic ministry, I decree that you will begin to experience and enjoy the ministry of angels, in the name of Jesus Christ.
Understanding the ministry of angels strengthens the Believer’s faith and spiritual awareness. Believers are not called to worship angels or obsess over them, but to recognize their role in God’s system. They function as servants of God, working in partnership with His Word, His Spirit, and His people to accomplish His purposes on earth.
There are various kinds of prayer available to the Believer, and every Believer must be mentored to know them and when to use each of them to obtain their desired results.
When the Believer learns the various kinds of prayer, several forms of fear we experience will naturally die.
The Kinds Of Prayer:
1. Praying in the Spirit (The prayer language)
• This goes beyond praying in tongues. This is praying with the prayer language of the Spirit.
2. Faith-filled declaration of Scripture (Psalm 107:2-3, Ecclesiastes 8:4)
• This prayer model works only when you have a rich understanding of The Word of God and how The Word works.
• This prayer uses the creative dimension to create possibilities by the power of God.
There are different kinds of prayer, and spiritual maturity involves knowing when to apply each one. This implies that there is not just one form of prayer; different situations require different approaches, and effectiveness in prayer depends on understanding which kind to use.
If a Believer wants to be effective in the ministry of prayer, they must learn the various kinds of prayer and discern when each is appropriate. Spiritual training includes understanding these distinctions so that prayer becomes precise, intentional, and powerful.
The prayer language (known as speaking in tongues/praying in the Spirit) is an advantage from God given to Believers. It helps to achieve the following:
1. Edification and spiritual growth. (1 Corinthians 14: 1-2)
2. It strengthens your capacity to receive from God.
3. It is a transportation system that can bring into your space and your life, the will of God.
The prayer language is an advantage that God gave the Believer, with many benefits. First, it brings edification and growth. (1 Corinthians 14:1-2)
The Kinds of Prayers:
1. Praying in the Spirit (praying in tongues)
The word tongues is an ancient word that simply means languages. In this context, it refers to a spiritual prayer language given to the Believer.
2. Faith-filled declaration of Scripture (Psalm 107:2-3, Ecclesiastes 8:4)
• This prayer model works only when you have a rich understanding of The Word of God and how The Word works.
• This prayer uses the creative dimension to create possibilities by the power of God.
3. The prayer of Inquiry. (1 Samuel 30:8, Ephesians 5:15)
• There are times that the Bible may not give you answers bespoke to what you’re looking for, and at that time, you must pray the prayer of inquiry.
• It is important to always inquire from God because of our human limitations.
• If this prayer model is maximized, your actions will be fewer, but your results will be unimaginable.
• This prayer model is important because one of the ways to redeem time is to know the will of God so that you don’t experiment with your life and your destiny.
Praying in the Spirit can also be referred to as distilled prayer because of the precision and accuracy in communication that the prayer language embodies.
A key method to praying effectively in the Spirit is to allow God to generate imagery in your mind, guiding and shaping the direction of your prayers.
To gain mastery in prayer, you must come to the realization that you have a responsibility as a co-labourer with God to create possibilities with the words of your mouth, based on your rich knowledge of the Word of God.
The prayer of faith-filled declarations addresses issues that conflict with the Word of God.
This prayer and intercession should not stop at binding demons. After you have bound the demons, you must create the reality you desire with your words and declarations of faith.
Faith-filled declaration is bespoke to issues that arise contrary to the Word of God. Having the mindset of a farmer, warfare prayers clear the land, and prophetic Word-based declaration sows seeds into your destiny, shaping a victorious outcome.
Man was made in the image and likeness of God, which connotes: “Image” as the character of God, while “Likeness” is the capacity to function like God.
Functioning like God first starts with speaking like God. We’re not just a talking Spirit, but a life-giving Spirit.
The greatest way to redeem time is to minimize experimentation with your destiny.
Learn to inquire of The Lord. When you seek His direction, your journey may seem slower, but it will be steadier. And when you finally move, you will move with certainty, without the need to turn back.
The greatest way to redeem your time is to minimize experimentation with your destiny. The unit of destiny is time, and whatever takes a portion of your time has eaten into your destiny. This is why engaging in the prayer of inquiry is important.
The Kinds of Prayers:
4. Warfare and Intercessory Prayer
Warfare has to do with using the Word of God and every spiritual resource made available to the Believer in Christ to enforce victory over lives, territories, and areas of assignment.
It is about taking advantage of God’s Word together with the spiritual provisions given to Believers, and applying them to establish God’s will. Warfare, therefore, is the Believer’s intentional use of heavenly resources, combined with spiritual understanding and alignment with Scripture, to enforce what Christ has already accomplished.
Spiritual warfare is not about trying to create victory; it is about enforcing the victory that has already been finished in Christ.
One of the blessings that follow the voice of God is ease. When you notice that you keep pushing and things are unbearably hard, you must pause and make inquiries from God.
How God Answers Prayers:
1. By giving you a prophetic revelation
2. By quickening in you a divine solution
3. By referring you to people who have gained mastery in finding direction
Indices/Signs that suggest we need to pray the prayer of inquiry:
1. Confusion
2. Consistent struggle in an area
• Ease is one of the blessings that follow the voice of God
• Consistent struggle can indicate a deviation from the strategy, irrespective of how clear the vision is.
• The vision and the strategy must be in sync.
How God answers us:
1. Prophetic revelation by The Spirit
2. Quickening a direction from the spirit, which gives birth to witty inventions
3. He can refer us to people who have surmounted similar challenges.
The Kinds Of Prayer:
4. Warfare and intercessory prayers (Ezekiel 22: 30, Psalm 66:3)
• There are times when Satan seems to have an upper hand in the life of a Believer and a territory, and this is because there is a bankruptcy of men and women who have failed to enforce their victory in Christ.
• Warfare here does not mean fighting the devil, and it is not fighting demonic spirits. It has to do with using the Word of God and every spiritual resource made available to the Believer in Christ to enforce over your life and over any situation, the victory that is finished in Christ.
• Certain realities will never manifest in the flesh until Believers learn to engage spiritual resources made available to us by the finished work of Christ.
What is Warfare to the Believer?
Warfare is not merely fighting the devil or confronting demonic spirits
Warfare is taking advantage of the voice of God and all the spiritual resources that have been made available in Christ as an arsenal to enforce the victory that already belongs to you in Christ.
The word “prevail” means that the order has already been established before the get-go. When we pray, we are praying from a place of victory. (Acts 19:20)
Declare: In the name of Jesus Christ, The Word of God shall prevail in my life; over my health, my family, and my finances.
When God places a burden of prayer on your heart, it is an act of trust. It means that your level of spirituality can serve as a bridge to close gaps swiftly and quickly.
The greatest gift you can give an individual, especially a person who has been called to the ministry, is not material gifts, but the gift of prayer.
Satan’s strategy in destroying any ministry:
1. The worship ministry: through offence and carnality.
2. The prayer department: through offence, pride, and competitive jealousy.
3. The family life of the set-man.
Not every attack will bring down a building (the entire ministry), but there are core pillars that, when touched, everything collapses. You must learn to guard your pillars.
There are things you hide, and your pillars are one of the core. If you want to win in life, don’t put your pillars in front of everybody. It is wisdom to guard your pillars.
Silence is not fear, Silence is not weakness. Silence can be a strategy. Silence can be wisdom. Silence can be obedience.
Pray: Lord, grant me the grace to guard my pillars; though the right use of words, through discernment, through relationships, in Jesus Christ’s name!
The Kinds of Prayers:
5. The prayer of Thanksgiving. (Colossians 4:2, Philippians 4:6)
Why Prayers Fail To Produce Answers:
1. The conflict between the will of God and our desires.
– What makes prayer effectual is the degree to which the will of God is captured in your desires and in that prayer.
– The Bible speaks about effectual prayer. Effectual refers to fervency, sincerity, and wholehearted engagement. But beyond intensity, what truly makes prayer effective is alignment with God’s will.
– The more your desires agree with God’s will, the more your prayers position you for answers. But when there is a strong deviation between what you want and what God intends, prayer may not produce the desired result.
– One of the ways to know your answers came from God is that it must produce the glory of God.
If the glory of God is to be birthed through your life and your results, then it must reflect in the level of excellence kept in keeping with God’s ordained script and strategy for the birthing of that result.
God may not answer your prayers exactly as you expect, but your prayers will be answered. The degree to which the glory of God is revealed through the answer confirms that He has responded. As a result, we are brought into alignment with His will, seeing His pattern was adhered to.
The reason many lives perpetually spiral downward is a failure to align their life with the will of God, and they have allowed the conflict between the will of God and their desires to persist.
I pray for you, in the name of Jesus Christ, that every part of your destiny that is out of alignment or inconsistent with the will of God, may you receive the grace to come into perfect alignment, in the name of Jesus Christ!
No matter how visionary you are, God will not show you the entire journey. What then will be the value of faith and trust in Him if He shows you everything?
Usually, it is in our weakness that the strength of God is revealed. He waits for us to exhaust our strength, then He steps in. Any time you have options, God suspends His appearance.
One way God answers prayers is by focusing on the person praying rather than the issue of concern itself. If the result were given without first shaping the Believer, it might not ultimately glorify His name.
God always works through men (people), but He hates them trying to be “Him” in your life.
It is only when you walk in the will of God that the glory of The Lord can be revealed in and through your life.
The more you fight the will of God, the more you keep prolonging the time for the manifestation of prophecy. It is always profitable to say yes, even when you don’t know how it will happen.
Three Ways To Pray The Will Of God:
1. Praying scripture-based prayers
2. Praying in the Spirit, engaging the wisdom of God
3. Praying with the leverage of prophetic guidance and direction
Three Ways To Know The Will Of God:
1. By Scriptures
2. The revelatory ministry of the Holy Spirit
3. The revelatory dimension of the prophetic
Why Prayers Fail To Produce Answers:
1. The conflict between the will of God and our desires.
– What makes prayer effectual is the degree to which the will of God is captured in your desires and in that prayer.
– One of the ways to know your answers came from God is that it must produce the glory of God.
2. Not understanding the believing, the receiving, and the having formula (Mark 11:24)
• Believing and receiving are not just activities; they are Spiritual, and having is an act of faith.
How God Answers Prayers:
1. Supernatural manifestations and divine interventions.
2. By releasing graces that bring about the manifestation of the answers (graces such as wisdom, favour, understanding, etc)
3. Through the ministry of men and women
(Numbers 1:5, Luke 10:29-36)
4. He causes you to grow.
(Luke 2: 52)
• God can suspend the subject matter of the prayer and cause you to grow to a version that can handle that level of result.
Make contact with someone and join in giving Jesus Christ praise for all He has done for us today, both in your life and through this series.
