The Compelling Power of Mighty Works (Raising Witnesses With Power) by Apostle Selman

“The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple.” Psalm 119:130 (KJV)
The Word of God is coming with power. As God’s servant ministers, stay attentive and receive with meekness. One word is enough to change your life.
Lift up your hands and declare that God is mighty over your life, over your family, over your children, and over every situation.
Pray: Father, let tonight be my night of encounters, evidence, and transformation, in the name of Jesus Christ!
Let tonight be the night where there will be evidence of my serving You, my waiting on You, and my serving You, in the name of Jesus Christ!
Pray: Father, let tonight be my night. My night for growth, transformation, an encounter, and testimonies.
Let tonight be the night where there will be an evidence of my knowing, loving, seeking, and passionately knowing You, in the name of Jesus Christ!
Father, we give You praise! Let Your name be lifted in our midst, and from this place, let the nations know that You are King.
Heal someone tonight, transform someone tonight, save someone tonight, and may Your name alone be exalted, in the name of Jesus Christ!
Lift your hands to The God of heaven and thank Him. Lift your hands with a thoughtful and grateful heart, acknowledging The Lifter of men and The Doer of all great things.
If you do not have a reason to thank Him, thank Him for Koinonia.
It is good to acknowledge God before people. When God begins to do great and visible things in your life, people may credit you for both what should go to God and what should go to you.
Never lose sight of the Source. It is wisdom to always acknowledge God and let people know that if a person advances in life, it is ultimately because God has caused them to advance.
Lay your hands on your head and cry to God for fruitful understanding.
Pray: Father, my heart is open to receive understanding and illumination by The Spirit. I declare that there is no distraction or haziness. The Word of God comes into my spirit, as intended, in the name of Jesus Christ!
Tonight is a wake-up call, a call to a higher level in the spirit. It is my prayer that your spirit is alert to receive from the start of service, even up until the end, in Jesus Christ’s name!
“For the kingdom of God is not in word, but in power.” 1 Corinthians 4:20 (KJV)
“And he went out from thence, and came into his own country; and his disciples follow him. And when the sabbath day was come, he began to teach in the synagogue: and many hearing him were astonished, saying, From whence hath this man these things? and what wisdom is this which is given unto him, that even such mighty works are wrought by his hands?”
Mark 6:1-2 (KJV)
“Then said Jesus unto him, Except ye see signs and wonders, ye will not believe.” John 4:48 (KJV)
John 14:8-11 (NIV)
8. “Philip said, “Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us.”
9. Jesus answered: “Don’t you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?
10. Don’t you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me? The words I say to you I do not speak on my own authority. Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work.
11. Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe on the evidence of the works themselves.”
Generally speaking, there are two sides to the communication of the Gospel and the ministry of The Word:
1. The effective communication of the message, the truth, and The Word, planting faith and bringing understanding.
2. The demonstration/evidence of the message, bringing validation to what is said.
Every time these two do not go hand in glove, it affects the potency of the message or an imbalance in the communication of the Gospel.
There are two sides to the communication of the Gospel and the ministry of The Word: the communication of The Word/message, and the demonstration/evidence that validates the message.
When either is missing, there will be a problem with its potency.
Any Believer who is completely ignorant as to the ways of God is either lazy or is under a teaching priest with a lopsided understanding of the ways of God.
Using Nigeria as a point of emphasis, there has been a strong focus on the communication of The Word of God and the ways of God, and this is a great commendation to the ministers of the Gospel.
While the Gospel and The Word of God have been coherently taught in a way that is intelligent and pragmatic, an area where many ministers have done well. However, the power component of The Word has been slowly ignored.
“Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils.” 1 Timothy 4:1 (KJV)
The consequence of robbing ourselves of these dimensions of the Gospel (the ministry of The Word and the demonstration of The Word) is that people are now used to a Gospel that does not carry power.
As a result, many drift toward occult practices because they cannot see the difference between where they used to be and what is now being preached to them.
While the teaching ministry has commendably addressed and corrected the doctrines of devils, the subtle operation of seducing spirits has not yet been corrected.
In recent history, many people began their journeys through encounters, not necessarily through studying the Bible. As a result, while they had undeniable evidence of having encountered God, they were not always grounded in sound doctrine.
Satan exploited this gap – a pursuit of intimacy and power that was not anchored in a thorough understanding of God and His ways. Consequently, it became difficult to discern which manifestations were truly from God and which were not.
In response, God began to raise teachers and priests who diligently examined these experiences, revealing that many supernatural encounters were a mixture of both the Spirit of God and other influences. They worked to restore honour to the supremacy of The Word of God.
Through this corrective move, many imbalances emerged, as it became evident that several long-held beliefs and practices were inconsistent with Scripture.
However, over time, another imbalance arose. More teachers emerged who emphasized the intellectual dimensions of the gospel, rich in knowledge, but often lacking in power. In the process of correcting one imbalance, we diminished another vital component – power.
Now, we are left recounting past moves of God as though the graces that empowered previous generations are no longer available to the Church, all in an attempt to compensate for the earlier excesses.
Subconsciously, many have grown accustomed to receiving the Word of God without the accompanying power. They have watched us say, “Rise up and walk,” yet there is no evidence to validate it.
Many have heard us say, “Have a blessed week,” but for many, nothing changes. The problem is not the communication of the Word, but a lack of power that gives life and evidence to those declarations.
In the process, we have trivialised the things that help bring conviction to the hearts of men, and then wonder why they do not believe. We have presented a healing Jesus, yet without present-day evidence to show that reality.
Proof matters because if not, why did Jesus resurrect? It’s not enough to say, “Jesus heals, Jesus delivers,” without evidence to support the claim, even though it is correct.
The Church is gradually delving out of the realm of power into a place where even believers begin to doubt God at the encounter of a supernatural demonstration of His power. It is almost as though there is a mental struggle to believe certain displays of God’s power.
What should strengthen faith has, for many, become a point of doubt, revealing how far we may be moving from the experiential reality of God’s power.
Sadly, many of the dimensions around the Church that are direct products of God’s power have been largely trivialized.
In the Church today, we continue to proclaim a dimension of God that we do not yet reveal. The Church must press to manifest every dimension of God that we proclaim to the world.
If you do not press for the superior dimension of the power of God to rest on you, you will see the power of darkness work in a way that will almost leave you in shock.
In the name of Jesus Christ, I pray for a restoration of divine power, beyond just falling under the anointing, that will truly set captives free and showcase the power of God in its many dimensions.
The challenge with this generation is that, through our limitations in revealing God’s power, we have given the world reason to question our God. This stems from the absence or limited understanding of the power of God.
The Church must seek to restore the authentic and provable power of God.
There is no point faking what can be real.
The kingdom of God is not in word alone, but in power.
We have, in many ways, cheapened a lot of spiritual things by reducing them to stories. There is a need to restore authentic, provable power to the body of Christ.
There is no need to fake what can be real. We have a mandate, and while we have done well in fulfilling one side of it (the doctrinal side). However, the power that gives witness is still missing.
Bearing witness to God was not meant to stop in philosophies and eloquence of speech. The kingdom is not in words alone, but in power.
Tonight’s message is a clarion call for an emergence of the generation of men and women who have genuinely touched the power of God.
I pray that in our lifetime, we will see men and women who will carry the provable power of God, in the name of Jesus Christ!
Declare: I receive power!
Genuine, apostolic power has a price; it is not a gift!
There is a price for real spiritual power.
The price for power has been trivialised by many because of doctrines like the finished work of Christ. While some believe that there is a price, many do not know what that price entails.
Most of the time, you’d find preachers who are strong in communicating The Word of God, yet without accompanying evidence. The end-time teachers will be those who rightly balance the wisdom of the Word with the demonstrable power of God, as evidence.
Every time God’s power is available, words do not need to be many.
Sometimes, the use of too many words is proof that power is lacking.
The end-time witnesses must understand how to balance God’s power and the message of His Word.
The abundance of high-sounding words is a way of covering the power gap.
I declare: This is the generation that will say a few things and demonstrate it with power, in Jesus Christ’s name!
Sadly, in many ways, the enemy has blinded our eyes in the Church to ignore the place of the supernatural.
The imbalance is that when you don’t understand sound doctrine and the teaching of the Word and the power component, you will become irresponsible and largely superstitious, and if we are not careful, we will produce a generation that will be sarcastic to the very supernatural dimension of God we are called to reveal.
Let us not become so intellectual as to forget that God can move mountains; God is supernatural. This does not endorse laziness and neglect of the kingdom keys to victory, but is a timely reminder of the impact of God’s power in superimposing on the normal outcome of events.
A word for our generation: In addition to the wisdom of God, the ways and the principles of the Kingdom we have learned, we must learn again that God is still the God of power.
We need to restore power to the church, not just stories or exaggerations that are unprovable.
It takes power, demonstrable virtue, provable evidence, and not just nice words of doctrine, to go global.
Genuine power!
Apostolic power!
Prophetic power!
It takes power!
Our assignment as Believers should be to press to do ministry with power, excelling in business and career with power, parenting with power, and building every area of life under the influence of God’s power.
Ultimately, restoring the power of God to a dying generation in need of His reality.
The Gospel is only as hard as the absence of power to support it.
Pray: Father, let genuine Apostolic power be restored, in Jesus Christ’s Name!
Rather than bragging about a few results, the Church must take responsibility and cry out to God, recognizing that something is missing and that we are in need of the restoration of genuine apostolic power in the body of Christ.
Talking about power is good, but it’s not enough. There is a price to be paid and a need to press into it.
We need to restore the ministry of The Holy Spirit: there’s a generation that has reduced it to a preacher’s advantage.
The price for all of God is all of you: not just your heart, nor your service in the house, it is unreserved surrender. Consecration is not only ‘abstinence from sin’, but it is also ‘devotion to God’, which involves dying to self and being plunged into everything that is of God.
When you encounter an environment where God’s genuine power is at work, it becomes difficult to doubt the God who has so clearly revealed Himself that much.
Our words will remain clichés until power validates them. Anytime the power of God is made manifest, it brings compelling witness to the Gospel we preach.
KEYS TO WALKING IN GENUINE POWER
1. The price of intimacy and consecration.
The price for all of God is all of you, unreserved surrender.
Consecration is not only founded on abstinence from sin, unrighteousness, and every work of the flesh, which constitutes 20%. The other end, 80% of consecration is devotion to God (set apart), wholly unto a cause/mission.
Devotion is setting God as number one in your life, where the theme of your life is Jesus Revealed and Jesus Glorified.
Carnality is any other reason that negates the intent to see Jesus Christ revealed and glorified in and through our results.
The reason why a lot of our prayers don’t get answered is the corruption that sponsors the desires. The mentality of rivalry, jealousy, betrayal, strive, etc has robbed us of a robust relationship with the Holy Spirit. (Romans 1:4)
An endeavour by a Believer should be all about revealing and glorifying Jesus Christ, in order to gain heaven’s backing. The problem with many Christians’ endeavours is that the activity is correct, but the motive behind it can be inwardly corrupted: filled with competition, jealousy, envy, and point-proving.
An invitation to intimacy with The Holy Spirit does not imply Jesus Christ will be jealous.
The assignment of the Believer should be to bring glory to Jesus Christ, and the way to bring glory to Jesus Christ is to embrace the ministry of The Holy Spirit.
7. And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.
8. But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
Acts 1:7-8 (KJV)
“How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.” Acts 10:38 (KJV)
1. And he said unto me, Son of man, stand upon thy feet, and I will speak unto thee.
2. And the spirit entered into me when he spake unto me, and set me upon my feet, that I heard him that spake unto me.
Ezekiel 2:1-2 (KJV)
“And the spirit entered into me when he spake unto me, and set me upon my feet, that I heard him that spake unto me.” – Ezekiel 2:2 (KJV)
We need an understanding of the value of the person, ministry, and office of The Holy Spirit. This understanding will help us walk in consecration and intimacy with God.
Living a truly consecrated life is by the help and ministry of the Holy Spirit. Attempting it in the flesh inevitably leads to legalism.
The Holy Spirit does not produce fanatics; what produces fanatics is religion and poor mentorship. Anytime this is seen, it is an aberration from the limitations and nuances of imbalanced preachers.
If you truly desire the power of God that empowers you to be a witness, there needs to be a return to the secret place: a place of brokenness and surrender.
The Lord is calling us into a deeper dimension of intimacy, not fame.
To operate in God’s power that enables us to be witnesses, there needs to be a return to the secret place. The secret place is a place of brokenness, power, relevance, and surrender.
Answering the call to ministry is like responding to a call into the military. While there may be space for other engagements or to do various extracurricular activities, you must have a dedication and a core devotion to sacrifice, from start to finish.
Your consecration is like a register in the spirit: every time you devote yourself and carry out activities of devotion to God, it adds up.
Not everyone who says, “Rise up and walk,” will get the result simply because they saw it in the Bible.
Pray: Father, I cry by the power of The Holy Spirit, help me dive deeper into the realm of intimacy with The Holy Spirit, in the name of Jesus Christ.
“And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.” John 17:3 (KJV)
There are spiritual pathways represented in Scripture through Biblical figures: Abraham is not merely a historical person; he represents a spiritual pathway.
In the same way, every Believer can find a replica or reflection in the Bible, whose life or story becomes a pathway through which The Holy Spirit leads and shapes them.
Declare: I believe in Jesus Christ!
I believe His plans for my life!
I believe I will fulfill it!
And no power can stop me, in the name of Jesus Christ!
KEYS TO WALKING IN GENUINE POWER
2. Price of revelation-knowledge of God (2 Peter 1:2, John 17:3, 2 Timothy 1:12, Ephesians 1:14, Isaiah 60:1, 2 Corinthians 4:6)
• It first starts with the knowledge of God, then the knowledge of Jesus Christ, then the modus operandi (laws) of the kingdom.
• The knowledge of God is the foundation for Bible knowledge; God will give you instructions that will defy the principles you know. God first reveals His Ways before His Works.
• One of the ways to know you are being trained in the Bible is that you will start seeing a prophetic parallel of your life from a character in the Bible, or, at the very most, Jesus being formed in you.
• Don’t learn to preach, learn to grow through knowledge, which would translate into your dispensing of knowledge by growth. (Colossians 3:16)
3. The price of violent Faith (Matthew 11:12, Psalm 66:3, Hebrews 11:1-4, 1 Peter 1:8)
Violent faith means the extent of aggression, with respect to the risk we can take as proof that we believe in God. Satan is a violent spirit; force is needed to drive him out; faith is the force.
• Faith is an expression of your conviction, your depth of assurance in His word
• Faith is the name given to the action of obedience as proof that we believe in Him
• Destiny advancement is a result of aggressive Faith. We have to remove the mindset of auxiliary faith, built on guarantees. We have to be ready to walk on water if it is necessary.
• Doing business for God and kingdom-come is faith-dependent.
Different measures of the operation of faith:
a. Word of faith
b. Gift of faith
c. Spirit of faith
It takes vision to start your journey in life, it takes discipline to continue, but it takes mercy to finish.
Humility is the foundation for longevity. Competitiveness often comes from pride. The quicker we humble ourselves and learn humbly, the quicker we are positioned to carry and reflect God’s glory.
There’s no man or woman who is indispensable.
God is able to do His work without you!
Pray: Lord, keep me humble. If you have found any root of pride in me, Lord, uproot it now!
4. The price of humility (James 4:6, 2 Chronicles 7:14)
• This means perpetually acknowledging God as the reason and basis for any result in your life. The natural/fallen man is not normally humble. There is an addiction to the spotlight.
Ways to walk in humility:
a. Remember where God took you from
b. Remember that no one is indispensable (a sense of exclusivity haughtily)
• The higher you rise, the harder it is to remain humble. The only way up is the way of humility
• Practice humility. One of the greatest prayer points for anyone God is lifting at the cutting edge of His program is “…Lord keep them humble”.
• It takes vision to start your journey, it takes discipline to continue, but it takes mercy to finish.
• Over 60% of the challenge in the church is a product of pride; competitiveness, not accepting corrections, is an offshoot of pride.
• We should always have in mind that there is no one indispensable in the body of Christ, and God can always do His work without you.
• There are no giants of humility; it is a school we all have to submit to.
5. The price of love (John 3:16)
There is a relationship between love and power
• Compassion is a derivative of love. Which is the ability to be touched by the feelings of God’s people. The healing ministry is a derivative of Love.
The four dimensions of love:
1. Love for God
2. Love for the body of Christ
3. Love for souls
4. Love for the assignment
• When you sow love, you will give. There is an extent to which love gets to, it translates to giving (wisdom, knowledge, time) as described in John 3:16. Evangelism was meant to be born out of love, our love to see people live better lives in Christ
Levels of Love You Must Possess to Experience the Power of God:
1. Love for God
2. Love for the Body of Christ
3. Love for Souls
4. Love for the assignment
The Benefits of Manifesting Mighty Works in a Generation:
1. It silences arguments and sarcasm
(Acts 4:10).
2. It validates the message (the Gospel), and the messenger (the witnesses)
(Acts 4:33)
3. It compels nations and the unbelieving world to be convicted, to come to Jesus Christ, and become obedient to the faith
(John 4:48, John 20:30-31)
The importance of tonight’s message is to charge us to go beyond nominal Christianity, but rather rise to a place where we understand the message (the Gospel), doctrine, the wisdom of God, the ways of God, and also understand the tremendous grace to back up the message with healing, power, mighty works, and territorial transformation, so that the kingdom of this world will become the Kingdom of God. (1 Corinthians 4:20)
Make contact with someone and cry out to God for a restoration of His power. Declare that the power of God will once again be evident across the nations of the earth.
Pray: Father, I obtain the grace from You to pay the price required to be a vessel through which Your power will be made manifest, in the name of Jesus Christ!
